Residencia Temporaria por Rentista

One-year renewable temporary residence with a DNI, or up to 3 years through the entry-permit route.

Who qualifies

Monthly income of at least 5 times the SMVM (a peso-indexed minimum wage): ARS 1,815,000 a month at the May 2026 SMVM of ARS 363,000, about $1,300 at the official exchange rate, though the peso's volatility means advisers now recommend showing $1,800–2,100 a month to survive scrutiny and rate swings before the visa is decided.

Income: At least $1,800 a month, steady and documented.

Time away: Two years of continuous residence immediately before applying, filed before a federal judge. The 2025 decree's rule that any trip abroad breaks the clock was struck down in court, and the electoral court annulled the decree's move of citizenship to the immigration service on 30 June 2026; keep trips short and documented until judges settle a reading.

Naturalisation needs only 2 years of continuous residence, so it comes before permanent residence (3 years, 2 for Mercosur nationals).
The official Ley 346 text on argentina.gob.ar still shows art. 2 as rewritten by DNU 366/2025 ('continuous and legal' residence, handled by Migraciones). After the 30 June 2026 ruling, cases went back to federal judges; the court text itself was not read, only press reports.
Language and civics: Ley 346 sets no test; whether individual judges check Spanish is practice, not law.
Before the decree, the Supreme Court (Ni I Hsing, 2009) held the 2 years need not be under a formal residence permit; from memory, not re-read today.
