Five years as a permanent resident, with no stay abroad longer than 30 days in a row or three months in total in any 12 months (work in Belize or medical reasons can excuse longer trips).
Two passports
Yes. You keep your U.S. citizenship.
  • Not a permit of its own: after a year of legal residence with no more than 14 days abroad, apply for permanent residence; citizenship five years after that.
  • No language or civics test and no decision time appear on the Immigration Department's pages; two Belizean referees who have known you five years are required.
  • Dual citizenship is allowed: only Indian nationals must file a renunciation, because India requires it.
  • How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
