Remote Worker Visa (E33G)

A 1-year multiple-entry stay permit (KITAS); no right to work for an Indonesian employer.

Who qualifies

  • Annual income of at least USD 60,000 from a foreign-registered employer or clients, with a supporting employment or contractor agreement; no Indonesian clients or employer permitted.

The hard part
Papering $60,000 a year of fully foreign-sourced income in a form Immigration accepts, especially for freelancers or owners of their own foreign company.

Acknowledge the state ideology Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution; no written test is set in the law.
Time away
Living in Indonesia for at least 5 consecutive years, or 10 years in total, at the time of applying. Applicants also need steady work or income and pay a naturalisation fee.
Two passports
Usually not: new citizens are asked to give up their other citizenship.
  • Time on this program does not count toward permanent residence or citizenship; the family would need to switch to one that does.
  • A one-year stay permit for remote work that is not on the list of permits that can switch to permanent residence.
  • The three-year rule for switching to ITAP is stated for workers, investors, clergy and retirees; whether second-home holders must also wait three years is not spelled out.
  • Whether the naturalisation clock needs a permanent permit (ITAP) or accepts years on a limited stay permit is not settled in the law.
  • The law gives the Minister and the President three months each to act, but I found no figure for real decision times.
