Second Home Visa

A 5-year or 10-year multiple-entry stay permit (KITAS) for the applicant and dependants; does not grant the right to work for an Indonesian employer.

Who qualifies

  • A deposit of IDR 2,000,000,000 (about USD 130,000, depending on the exchange rate) placed in the applicant’s own name at a state-owned Indonesian bank — BNI, BRI, or Mandiri — and maintained for the life of the permit.

Cost
About IDR 7,000,000 (roughly $450) in government fees plus typical agent fees of $1,500–5,000; the $130,000 deposit is capital, not a fee, and is returnable.
The hard part
Sourcing and parking $130,000 of real capital in a state bank account in your own name and keeping it there for the life of the permit.

Citizens by 2033.

If your first permit is issued in 2027 and you keep living there, this is the road.

  1. 2027
    First residence permit

    5 years, renewable for 5 years at a time.

  2. 2030
    Permanent residence

    Switch the limited stay permit (ITAS) to a permanent one (ITAP) after three consecutive years in Indonesia. Workers, investors, clergy, retirees over 60, family reunion and second-home ITAS holders are on the list of those who may switch; an integration statement is required.

    Apply for citizenship

    With a language test and a civics test.

Able to speak Indonesian.
Civics
Acknowledge the state ideology Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution; no written test is set in the law.
Time away
Living in Indonesia for at least 5 consecutive years, or 10 years in total, at the time of applying. Applicants also need steady work or income and pay a naturalisation fee.
Two passports
Usually not: new citizens are asked to give up their other citizenship.
  • Second-home holders are on the list allowed to switch to a permanent stay permit (ITAP); citizenship needs five years living there, Indonesian and giving up your old citizenship, and whether the three-year wait applies to second-home holders is not spelled out.
  • The three-year rule for switching to ITAP is stated for workers, investors, clergy and retirees; whether second-home holders must also wait three years is not spelled out.
  • Whether the naturalisation clock needs a permanent permit (ITAP) or accepts years on a limited stay permit is not settled in the law.
  • The law gives the Minister and the President three months each to act, but I found no figure for real decision times.
  • How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
  • This country asks new citizens to give up their other citizenship.
