Residence by property investment

A 5-year residence permit for the buyer and immediate family, tied to continued ownership of the property.

Who qualifies

You keep your U.S. citizenship.

1

Does it fit your family?

One question, from the program’s own rules.

Savings you could move or invest?

Not legal advice.

2

What it takes.

Investment
About $211,000.
Time
2–3 months for the residence permit once the property purchase and registration are complete.
Cost
The property purchase (from about $211,000) plus registration fees of roughly 5% of value and legal costs of $3,000–6,000.
The hard part
Holding the property for the full 5 years without selling, since the residence permit is tied directly to continued ownership.

Dollar figures are converted from the local currency at the rate the program’s research used; the official figure is in the local currency.

Citizens by 2032.

If your first permit is issued in 2027 and you keep living there, this is the road.

  3. 2032
    Citizenship
Time away
Regular residence in Jordan for the four years right before applying, and an intent to stay. The Council of Ministers may grant or refuse the application at its discretion.
Two passports
It depends on the rules at the time and on your home country.
  • A five-year permit while the property is held (JD 150,000 to 300,000); the years are legal residence, but ordinary naturalisation needs giving up the old passport and is rarely granted to non-Arabs.
  • Article 12 (four years) is from a 1987 reprint of the law; I could not confirm it has not been amended since. A separate article gives Arabs a route after fifteen years.
  • Ordinary naturalisation requires losing the old nationality (art. 13(3)), and grants to non-Arab foreigners are rare; the investor route is the practical door, where the old nationality is kept in practice.
  • Jordan has no ordinary permanent residence; the property permit is a five-year permit tied to the property.
  • No official decision time for ordinary naturalisation.
  • JO-CBI time: advisers quote 3–6 months (Global Citizen Solutions) and the earlier pass had 6–12; no official figure, so 3–12 months is shown.
  • The July 2025 cabinet rules and a July 2026 legal update list share, new-project, existing-business and job-creation routes but no $1 million Central Bank deposit or treasury-bond route; the program file's summary still leads with the deposit, which may have closed.
  • How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
  • Whether you can keep your current citizenship depends on the rules at the time and your home country.

Living there.

Time you must spend there
The program sets no minimum number of days. Renewal still expects it to be your home.
Tax
Residence alone does not trigger Jordanian tax residence; that depends on actually living there, generally 183+ days a year.

We never file a tax return. We tell you what applies and brief the professional who does.
