The hard part
There is no dedicated remote-worker status, so a genuinely foreign-facing freelancer must incorporate locally to get any residence right at all, and stays over 180 days a year require the residence permit regardless of nationality.

    Five years in a row on temporary residence, with no more than 6 months in a row or 10 months in total abroad. You also need steady income, housing and health insurance, and no prison sentence of a year or more. Years on a study permit count half. Years on a permit based only on owning a home do not count.

Time away
Seven years of lawful, continuous residence before applying. The citizenship law does not count days abroad; the permanent-residence rule (at most 6 months in a row or 10 in total over 5 years) is the working guide.
Two passports
It depends on the rules at the time and on your home country.
  • Business residence counts in full. Renewals are at most 1 year each, so the permit must be renewed without a gap every year.
  • The residence clock was cut from 8 to 7 years by an amendment published in 2021 or 2022. The consolidated text says 7; older guides still say 8.
  • The law only sets a 6-month limit for the security check. No honest end-to-end processing time was found.
  • MK-CBI: the 8 to 24 months is a wide guess. Agents quote 8 to 10 months (immigrantinvest.com, seen 2026-09-24), some applicants have waited over a year, and there is no official timeline. The fixed €200,000/€400,000 prices come from a government decree that was not read.
  • How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
  • Whether you can keep your current citizenship depends on the rules at the time and your home country.
