Show about 6 months of bank or pay statements averaging 680x the daily UMA a month in income; at the 2026 UMA of $117.31 pesos, that is roughly $4,430–4,650 a month, though the exact peso-to-dollar conversion and the exact multiple can vary consulate by consulate.

Citizenship

Language: Spanish, shown in an exam set by the Foreign Ministry's Instituto Matías Romero.
Civics: An exam on Mexican history and culture. Children, people over 60 and refugees only have to show they speak Spanish.
Time away: The years must come right before the application, on a temporary or permanent residence card. Trips abroad do not break the clock unless, in the last two years before applying, they add up to more than six months.
Two passports: It depends on the rules at the time and on your home country.

The first card can be issued for one to four years at your choice (the fee rises with the length), and temporary residence stops at four years in total. Then you switch to permanent residence. Years on the card count toward citizenship.
Mexico asks every new citizen to sign a renunciation of their old nationality once the grant is approved (arts. 17 and 19). Mexico does not ask for proof that the home country accepted it, so whether you keep your old passport depends on your home country's own law.
Decision time: the Regulation gives the Interior Ministry 45 working days to give its opinion and the Foreign Ministry 90 days after that, about five to six months in all. I found no official figure for how long it takes in practice.
'Latin American country' in the law is not defined. Haiti and Andorra (which is on the Iberian Peninsula) are left off the two-year list.
The Foreign Ministry's own naturalisation pages were behind a bot wall, so the exam details come from the Regulation, not the current guidance.
How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
