What it takes.

Time
2–8 weeks, depending on the province; applications go through the e-İkamet portal.
Cost
About $100–350: a flat 810 TRY document fee plus a duration-based residence permit tax (roughly 1,877 TRY per month beyond the first), plus insurance and translations, on top of whatever underlies the permit (rent, property, business). Some nationalities (including Czechia, Denmark and Ireland) are exempt from the duration-based tax under reciprocity agreements.
The hard part
There is no fixed income floor in the statute, so approval depends on the individual office's read of "sufficient means," and rules on renting as the sole basis have tightened in recent years in oversaturated districts.

Time away
Five years of uninterrupted lawful residence before applying. Time abroad may not add up to more than 12 months over those five years, and it counts toward the five years.
Two passports
Yes. You keep your U.S. citizenship.
  • Short-term permits count in full: 5 years (with no more than 12 months abroad) opens citizenship, and 8 years opens the long-term permit.
  • The interview commission comes from the implementing regulation (mevzuat.gov.tr, Regulation 2010/139), which was seen in search results but not read in full.
  • The 5-year route is discretionary even when every condition is met. No official processing time was found.
  • TR-CBI: 6 to 12 months from purchase to passport is the figure agents and the earlier research give. No official source states a processing time.
  • How long the decision takes isn’t published; we allow a year.
